History:
[Midas Wiki Page]
In the not too distant future humans are no longer boxers. Instead, in the world of boxing humans have been replaced by robots. Robots are custom made for the sport and are controlled by their handlers by either hand-held controllers, voice controls, or shadow functions. The sport has a large following and is likely the most popular.
There are two kinds of robot boxing: league fighting - which follows a set of rules, where the best duke it out for the WRB (World Robot Boxing) championship title. And underworld fighting - no rules, done for the entertainment and money. Especially the money.
Midas, an underworld bot was created by the Bakker Brothers, who were in the automobile business. Artie Bakker, was likely the one responsible for most of Midas' creation, and is the human to own and handle the bot. Midas was "born" for the underworld and thus has only ever fought within it, Artie (and Midas) having no interest in the WRB.
Winning fight after fight at Crash Palace, Midas became its champion. In underworld fighting he is the one to beat. At Crash Palace he is the one you fight your way up to, and he brings the finale as Midas has never lost a fight.
Fast forward to May 2020, a famous WRB robot, Noisy Boy, is purchased on the black market by a man named Charlie Kenton. This new handler of Noisy Boy takes the bot to Crash Palace in order to make some quick money, despite not knowing any of Noisy Boy's fighting moves (Noisy being a voice command bot).
Due to Charlie's insistence Noisy Boy is set up to fight Midas, and while the beginning of the fight he seems to be doing well, the tide quickly turns in Midas' favor. Charlie's lack of knowledge on Noisy Boy allows for Midas to do what he does best, and Noisy quickly looses an arm and then his head, when Midas serves up his famous decappuccino. Another win for Crash Palace's champion.
Midas later faces off against Chaos, Abandon, Danger Zone, and One-Eyed Jack, defeating them all.
Personality:
When you think of boxing characters like Midas don't usually come to mind, when you add in the underworld things start making sense. Midas fights dirty and he wouldn't have it any other way, the only rule is to win no matter the cost. Rules that would be considered illegal in any normal or league boxing is fair game. Hitting below the waist, kicking, headbutts, if it means he'll win Midas is all for it. He's a bot that only fights in the underworld as he was made for it, and has a severe distaste for what he knows about the WRB league. The league sucks and he hates it.
Basically rules get you nowhere and league bots are weak.
Midas is incredibly arrogant, and having never lost a fight his ego has been allowed to grow. He sees himself as the best there is, and he's never lost so who can say otherwise? The way he walks and carries himself it's easy to see that he thinks highly of himself.
His tagline is "The Gold-Blooded Killer" and he lives up to it, often literally destroying his opponent in the ring. Ripping off arms and punching off heads with his famous Decappuccino move. He's a brutal merciless bot and he enjoys what he does; especially combined with the reaction he gets from the large crowds that come to watch. Having people watch him and cheer him on as he rips apart another bot? There's nothing he'd want more. Which leads into another very important thing about Midas.
He's ridiculously vain. At the end of each fight it's not uncommon to see him brushing his mohawk back to fix any out of place fiber optics and just look good for his audience. He'll do poses before and after a fight to show off how amazing he is and looks, and everyone pays attention. He's Midas after all. He'll even stop to motion for the crowd that he's going to do a finishing move, just to entertain them and rile up some more cheers. Possibly even waiting for them to give him the cue to end the other bot, much like stereotypical gladiator fights - of which he's themed to.
The crowd gives him his signature X sign and he'll end the bot he's fighting. AKOs everywhere. Much like a thumbs up to a gladiator means that he's to kill his opponent.
The stats Midas is given put his intelligence at an somewhat okay 55/100. He's certainly not the smartest bot out there, and he'd probably have trouble winning a fight without his handler if he was up against a smarter opponent. He may be tough and ruthless in a fight, but his intelligence is something that could hold him back if bots ever fought without handlers. Outside of a ring this intelligence can further limit him, things like large words he likely wouldn't understand, let alone what to do in the world. Many things would confuse him.
The Underworld and his life at Crash Palace has taught him very few things. Life is about destroying other bots for entertainment and fun, and to make people money. Money is an incredibly important thing, and when people bet on you, then you had better win. If there's one things humans hate it's loosing a bet. Not that he has to worry about disappointing anyone as he's never lost.
PROOF OF SENTIENCE. The movie is very vague about the sentience or possible sentience of the bots. However most things seem to point towards them having some kind of sentience. They were each designed with personalities and given intelligence stats; Midas' video can be found here and his intelligence stands at 55/100, not the smartest thing out there. The main bots each seem to at some point move on their own without command. To further prove they each have different personalities from each other, the movie team gave each bot their own unique "voice". All the gears and moving metal sounds different for each robot.
Midas himself shows some movement on his own when Noisy splashes his "juice" in his face during their fight. Giving the other bot a slight head tilt and a "seriously" kind of look.
On the blu-ray it's stated that in the original script the main robot, Atom, was going to do his fights on his own. No controller, no one telling him what to do, just doing the fights completely by himself. They later changed this to make people wonder are they or aren't they sentient and to focus more on the human characters father/son bonding rather than OHMYGOSH ROBOTS.
Powers/Abilities:
As a boxing robot, Midas is classified as a Blitz Cannon, meaning in matches he is fast on his feet, but more importantly fast with his punches. He punches much faster than he moves. This means that he isn't the most durable bot out there (scoring an 88/100), but he doesn't need to be as he makes up for it with being able to pummel his opponent with speedy punches, making sure they can't get an attack in.
His fighting style has been likened to be more of a brawler or mixed martial arts, as being from the underworld means he has no issue with kicking or other moves that would be illegal in boxing. Midas' attitude and arrogance comes out in his fighting which can be both a strength and a weakness, depending on the situation.
Midas specializes in breaking off at least one of his opponents arms, making it harder for them to fight back, and his rapid punching works perfectly with pounding on a joint to rip off or weaken a limb. He has two signature movies, the Tomahawk Blow and his more famous move, the Decappuccino. The Decappuccino is more of a finishing move and again takes into account Midas' speedy punches and his love for breaking his opponents. The move is what it sounds like, decapitation. He punches his opponent's head off. Breaking an opponent is better than knocking them out.
Like all boxing bots, Midas has no fingers (he does have a thumb however), his hands essentially being red metal boxing gloves. Good in the ring, no so good out of it.
Inventory:
HAND-HELD REMOTE CONTROLLER. The touch screen on Midas' controller is used for just about everything. It shows how his systems are holding up, if anything's been damaged, allows the handler to make changes to him, etc. When in fights it will also display a virtual image of Midas for easier control.
The handles of the controller each have buttons on the top and back, and are capable of rotating in order to get Midas to preform the move desired. Think of them like arm controls.
Whoever controls the controller, has command over Midas and his movements.
Starting Polarity: I pity any 13 that has to deal with him. No preference.

SILENT VERSION aka VIDEO VERSION.
[Midas stands, his posture making him look clearly miffed about something. Raising a fist he points to the screen then waves it about in the empty space beside him. Finally the gold boxing-bot shrugs, what he's saying is really up for interpretation.
Or at least was until Midas turns and starts punching a wall. When he stops there's the vaguest dented shape of another... bot possibly? The "figure" is around the same height as him, with large fists or hands, and an odd dome like shape on its head. Midas taps his artwork and then shrugs again, gears whining in an annoyed sound.
Hey, seen this guy?]
TEXT/VIDEO VERSION.
[Midas stands, his posture making him look clearly miffed about something. His gears grind, making an annoyed sound as he brushes back his mohawk.]
That idiot Noisy Boy is missing. Short purple bot, dented, covered in yellow graffiti. Supposedly he looks like a samurai. Let me know if you see him.
Third Person Sample:
There's never been a moment where Midas has been online and without Artie. His creator has always been right there when he needed to not be sitting around, off and charging. But when he comes online this time around, Artie isn't anywhere to be seen. No controls telling him to get up, to move. No roaring crowd that he can always hear even from the backs of Crash Palace. No roaring fans, or the clashes of metal as bots are being torn apart.
Nothing.
It's an aggravating kind of silence, obviously not one the gold bot appreciates. Where are his fans? Where is Artie? But the most important question running through him as he finally gets to his feet is why he's in junk. He won his match against One-Eyed Jack, and if anyone needed to be sitting around in junk it would have been him. Not Midas. Everything about this was wrong. Artie would never have, so which idiot did this thinking they could get away with it?
His shoulders shift back slightly, gears grinding in annoyance at the entire ordeal. How would Artie find him in this mess? He isn't sure how he could even get back to his creator, where he would even start. And he had matches to win! It's in irritable silence that Midas brushes his mohawk back; the last thing he needs in this mess is for one single fiber optic strand to be out of place. He might be standing in junk, but he doesn't look a think like it-
Graffiti.
There's graffiti on his arm.
WHO RUINED HIS LOOK?! He'd punch them apart!
"Greetings-"
A hooded figure? It was them wasn't it.
Things would not end well.
